I'm Kenny, or Coinneach, depending on which language you speak.
Originally from Lewis in the Western Isles of Scotland, I studied
Microbiology at Glasgow University. From there, I moved to the Isle
of Skye where I completed a postgraduate diploma in Gaelic
broadcasting at Sabhal Mòr Ostaig. For the next three years I worked
as a subtitler and translator for Cànan Ltd, a media support unit set up
by Sabhal Mòr to service the needs of broadcasters and production
companies in Scotland. Despite loving the island and my job, I missed
city life and moved to London to work for ITFC Ltd, where I spent
nine years as a subtitler
for ITV and other broadcasters.

On being offered voluntary redundancy in 2004, I decided it was time
to go freelance and work from home in Oxfordshire. Since then, I
have worked for a variety of clients, dealing with both broadcast and
DVD subtitling.

As with all industries, one cannot afford to stand still or to depend on
one sector for work. As a result, I have diversified into editing,
transcription, copy typing and proofreading - all of which skills I was
using on a daily basis anyway.
